Welcome to “Taste Makers” our exciting after-school cooking program designed to introduce students to the wonderful world of cooking! This program provides a hands-on learning experience where youth can discover the joys of creating their own meals, develop essential cooking skills, and embrace healthy eating habits. Over the course of this program, participants will gain confidence in the kitchen, learn fundamental cooking techniques, and have fun while preparing delicious recipes.

Duration: 6 weeks

Ages: Youth currently in High School

Barrie Program Details
Schedule: Thursdays from January 22, 2026 – February 26, 2026
Time: 5:30PM – 7:30PM
Location: Zehrs Big Bay Point – 620 Yonge Street, Barrie, ON

Orillia Program Details
Schedule: Mondays from January 26, 2026 – March 9, 2026 (*no class Feb 16*)
Time: 5:30PM – 7:30PM
Location: St. Paul’s Centre – 62 Peter Street, Orillia, ON

What We Offer:

1. Basic Cooking Skills:
– Learn how to safely use kitchen tools and appliances.
– Understand kitchen safety and hygiene practices.
– Practice essential cooking techniques like chopping, sautéing, and baking.

2. Healthy Eating:
– Explore the benefits of different food groups.
– Create balanced meals that are nutritious and tasty.
– Understand the importance of portion control and moderation.

3. Hands-On Experience:
– Prepare a variety of dishes, from simple snacks to complete meals.
– Work in small groups to encourage teamwork and collaboration.
– Experience the entire cooking process, from ingredient selection to plating.
